Hire a State or National Performer

Women’s History comes alive with the help of talented Women’s History Performers or Authors. Costumed Performers portray both famous and infamous women from our history with relish and panache, while Authors or Presenters bring unbridled enthusiasm that comes from years of research and writing about specific women or women’s history topics.

National Performers/Authors are available to travel across the country to perform at your event, while Performers/Authors listed by state are available to perform only within the state they are listed in.

To find performers/authors available nationally or within a specific state, use the pull-down list provided below or find your state to the column on the right:

Program Planning Suggestions

Before finalizing arrangements with a performer, we recommend discussing the following key topics:

  1. Performance Requirements: Ensure clarity on stage, sound, and lighting needs, as well as audience preferences (e.g., children/no children, alcohol-free event).
  2. Publicity Needs: Confirm the availability of promotional materials such as photos and performer information.
  3. Fees: Discuss the cost of a single performance, options for block booking (multiple performances on the same or consecutive days), and any travel/per diem expenses.
  4. Personal Arrangements: Address housing and ground transportation requirements, if applicable.
  5. Program Content: If there are any specific topics your audience may be sensitive to, ask direct questions about the content of the performance.
  6. Educational Materials: Inquire if any performance-related educational materials are available for reprint.

Please Note: The NWHA does not employ performers or authors—they are independent contractors. If you wish to engage an NWHA staff member for a program that does not involve a performer, this will require a separate contract. The NWHA shares performer listings based on information provided by the performers themselves and is not responsible for any performer, negotiations, or performance outcomes.
