Why You Should Support the NWHA

Women’s History is women’s right. It is an essential, indispensable heritage from which we can draw pride comfort, courage, and long range vision

—Gerda Lerner, Women’s History Pioneer

The National Women’s History Alliance (NWHA) has and continues to offer inspiration and support for the recognition of women—women activists, women artists, women scientists, and women community leaders and women who want to rise and find their voice.

We are proud of our role in promoting women’s history and uniting women’s history efforts.

Your membership will go to support our ongoing services as well as our exciting projects in the works:

  • Work to designate Women’s Equality Day as a federal holiday
  • Initiate an endowment to strengthen the NWHA for the future
  • Intensify the effort to have women’s history integrated into more state K-12 curricula

This is in addition to our ongoing work in serving as the national clearinghouse for multicultural American women’s history.  We need your help to widen our path in the 21st century as we continue to write women back into history. Please join today.

With your support we can continue our important service:

  1. Each year we send out at least 11,000 copies of our Women’s History Magazines.
  2. Each year we distribute hundreds of women’s history posters, celebratory materials, books, videos, sample speeches, and curriculum resources.
  3. We network with schools, colleges, companies, churches, clubs, communities, government offices, unions, publishers, and the media.
  4. Our staff (and directors have conducted women’s history training sessions and women’s historic site tours in 42 states, trained over 30,000 teachers and federal program managers, and delivered over 2,500 speeches.
  5. We created the national clearinghouse to provide multicultural women’s history information, materials, referrals, and strategies. This service also provides easy access to women’s history performers, organizations, museums, and historic sites.
  6. Our website serves as the digital clearinghouse for multicultural women’s history information. Our website has millions of visitors a year. [verify]
  7. We have designed, developed, and produced more than 200 multicultural women’s history resource materials, such as videos, speeches, posters, celebratory items, guides, program kits, and curriculum units.
  8. Our past successful women’s history campaigns have resulted in tens of thousands of local, state, and national women’s history events.
  9. Since our founding, our staff has responded to more than 200,000 requests for information from students, teachers, authors, historians, librarians, corporate and government agency executives.
  10. Additionally, each year we answer hundreds of phone calls, e-mails, and letters from students, teachers, reporters, and other interested individuals requesting information.

We are retelling history. And changing the future. We believe that knowing women’s history gives all of us—female and male—the power and inspiration to succeed. We believe that Our History Is Our Strength!
