August 26, 2020, was the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment. Countless groups have grown up across the country to recognize women’s successful grassroots drive to win the vote. They have spent months organizing celebrations and commemorations, and often creating new and exciting educational materials to mark the centennial.

Remarkably, despite the virus, an incredible number of events, real and virtual, still took place to honor this historic anniversary. In fact, many of these events were held online, making these diverse, widespread celebrations even more accessible.

Which meant we could make the most of another year to educate our fellow citizens and commemorate this lasting victory.

We created our 11-page Women’s Suffrage Centennial Update Gazette to highlight some of the major upcoming events. It lists over 100 organizations with centennial celebrations.

Our follow-up Suffrage Centennial Updates for the Week of August 16-22 and Week of August 23-30 have even more details about events leading up to Women’s Equality Day, August 26, and for the following year.

The suffrage and women’s rights movements are the roots of women in politics and women’s rise in national leadership.  Along with the suffrage centennial, we want to emphasize the importance of the vote. We will continue to commemorate this significant anniversary for women and their momentous victory for equal rights.
